Youth Education Coloring Books Are Now Available

CHIROPRACTIC COLORING BOOKS

The OCA currently has a product line for youth education (K-3). These color books teach young students information about what Chiropractic is, as well as the importance of good nutrition and exercise. These coloring books will also make a nice gift for a speaking engagement or community event.

These color books (2 different choices == educational coloring and activities) are now available through the OCA office. They are $24.95 for packages of 50 (This offer is only to our members – that is only .50 each)

Expanding Access at the Federal Level

At the state level we are working hard to expand access for all patients. We support efforts to expand programs that repay or defer student loans for health care providers who agree to work in rural or medically underserved areas. Currently, at the state level there is a package of bills we are watching very closely. Today, the American Chiropractic Association announced that they are working with Congress to pass similar legislation. Want to know more? Login in to the Member’s Center and read the press release.

Dr. Don Ferrante Meets with President Obama

Portland, OR

On October 20, 2010 Dr. Don Ferrante, D.C. met President Obama. In a media event at the airfield, Dr. Ferrante had the opportunity to stand with the Oregon congressional delegation and welcome the President. Dr. Ferrante received this special invitation through Elizabeth Mazzara, the Oregon Chiropractic Association, Government Relations and Public Affairs Director and her relationship with US Congressman David Wu.

Dr. Ferrante waited in line next to Congressman Wu, until his chance to greet the President. As he approached Dr. Ferrante introduced himself and told him that it was an honor to meet him. He told the President that he was the President of the Oregon Chiropractic Association. The President replied, “I have a pain between my shoulder blades and I could really use an adjustment”. They both started laughing, and then the President remarked “maybe we should get back on Air Force one and you could adjust me”…….. “I am right behind you sir, let’s do it” Dr. Don replied and they continued laughing as the secret service told him he had to move along. As he started to move on he said “it was nice to meet you Don”….

The President was in Portland in support of John Kitzhaber’s gubernatorial bid. He held a large, public rally at the Convention Center. Several chiropractors and I also attended the Kitzhaber rally through tickets obtained independently and through Dr. Vern Saboe and the Kitzhaber people. Dr. Huma Pierce was involved at the event and Dr. Chris Pierce, Dr. Bruce Pace, Dr. Dan & Darla Beeson, 2 UWS students (Crystal and David) and myself were fortunate enough to be among those that attended with those tickets.

Afterward, Congressman Wu, Bill Bradbury and his wife Katy, Dr. Don and Jan Ferrante, Elizabeth Mazzara, Dr. Chris and Dr. Huma Pierce, and some other friends dined together in downtown Portland.

Dr. Ferrante told his story and thanked the Congressman and Elizabeth for making that happen for him. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity that he will never forget and he was honored to be invited.
